Recover with the App

The website provides DMG downloads and version updates. Recovery work happens in the macOS App. We promise only scenarios the App can actually handle, not overwritten data, damaged blocks, or disks that cannot be decrypted.

Choose a disk

Select an APFS or HFS+ volume, FAT32 device, or exFAT external drive in the macOS App. The scan is read-only and does not modify the source disk.

Preview recoverable files

The App organizes folders, file sizes, and recovery status from APFS checkpoints, HFS+ catalog records, or deleted FAT/exFAT directory entries before export.

Export to a safe location

Choose another disk or folder for recovered results to avoid overwriting source data.

Best for these cases

Recently deleted folders

Install the DMG and scan as soon as possible. Stopping writes early usually improves recovery chances.

HFS+, FAT32, and exFAT drives

Scan legacy Mac HFS+ volumes plus portable drives, USB disks, and camera cards formatted as FAT32 or exFAT.

Video recovery and repair

Recover large videos and media files, then run best-effort video repair for supported recovered files.

FAQ

Short answers for the recovery cases the current macOS App is designed to handle.

Which file systems does Ed Recovery support?

The current App can scan APFS volumes, HFS+ volumes, FAT32 devices, and exFAT drives. APFS recovery uses old checkpoints when available; HFS+ recovery reads catalog records; FAT32 and exFAT recovery focuses on deleted directory entries and remaining file data.

Can it recover files after the disk has been overwritten?

No recovery App can guarantee overwritten data. Stop using the source disk as soon as possible, scan it read-only, and export recovered files to a different disk or folder.

Does the App modify my original disk?

The scan workflow is read-only. Recovered files should be exported to another safe location so the source disk is not changed during recovery.

What file types can I preview and export?

The App is built for photos, videos, documents, and common file types. Preview and export depend on whether the file record and file data are still intact enough to read.

What does video repair do?

After a video file is recovered, the App can try to rebuild supported video metadata or indexes when they are damaged. It is best-effort and depends on how much valid video data remains.

Do I need an activation key?

You can install the DMG first. Full recovery export requires an activation key, which is shown after payment and also sent to the email address used at checkout.
